Weekend at Home

29 January, 2012

This weekend I went back to my hometown, being really lucky with the weather. Featherlight snowflakes are powdered over the whole town and everything looks like glittering candyfloss.

I spent yesterday shopping with my Mom and celebrating S'  Dad's birthday. I found two beautiful children's books in a Salvation Army's thrift store, and two cute coffee cups. S and I are talking about finding an apartment in Oslo in May, and knowing that we'll soon move together makes me the happiest girl alive.

Sketch and Wash

21 January, 2012

My friend Kate and her sketching over at Sketch and Wash is my inspiration today. I usually don't use my notebook for washes, but after some experimenting I found that it works perfectly fine. The important thing is to not use too much water in order to avoid that the paper cockles.

I'm off to the post office to pick up my new W&N Cotman brushes and the acrylic ink that I've ordered. Can't wait to start using all of it! I have so many ideas.

What I've been working on

18 January, 2012

The first two weeks of school are always a little crazy, but I hope that once my schedule falls into place, I can start painting again more regularly. I'm  in love with Amy Merrick's beautiful bouquets, and I've decided to paint two of them. So this is a photo of one of them in progress, and I have no idea if or when I finish it, since I've been painting on it, on and off, for several weeks. I'm very meticulous about it, since my previous large painting turned out pretty well and I want the same for this one. Just looking at this photo now, makes me realize that I have a lot more to do.

I've also borrowed some really nice books at the library: Alex Katz, Essential Klimt, Drawing Workbook and The Art of Seeing. When am I going to get to read all of these you ask? Probably next summer...

A Trip to the Animal Park

My friend is lucky enough to be a seasonal worker at an animal park near my home town, so we went there for a photo shoot today. Because of the freezing weather, it was a fairly short, but enjoyable one.

Most people probably don't see the point in keeping pets for other than practical reasons. Then there are people like me. I feel more relaxed, empathetic and in touch with nature with animals around. Today's trip made me realize that I definitely will have a dog someday, and that I wan't to try horseback riding again, once I get the chance.
