Library Musings

11 July, 2012

Gosh. I can't believe myself when I'm saying this, but here I go.

I am actually beginning to miss spending time at my favorite library. The one with the old, dark wooden walls, smelling of ancient books that are covered in golden ornaments. Books so old that they look like they are about to fall apart anytime and that have to be handled in a way that gems are handled, using soft microfiber gloves.

People, usually students like myself, go there to do their chores. When I glance over at their books I am surprised by the multitude of the subject being studied. ( It's everything form geology to theater studies). I wonder how on earth I came to choose my rather ordinary profession. I realize now that life is too short to learn everything I want to, not to mention that it's way too short to chase profits.

  5. Old libraries are just magical to lose oneself in. This one looks amazing. I definitely miss that time in my life when I spent days, afternoons and evenings in university libraries doing research or studying.
Lovely to be back reading your blog.

  6. I love libraries, too. As a child I went almost every day to my home town's library and hang around there, later I worked in one for some years.

A library's atmosphere cannot be copied. And the busy silence there is something very soothing, I think.

  7. My college library didn't have that library feel at all, very clinical / terrible. I've always dreamed of being in a real dark old timey library with books & wood like this, or better still turning an extra room in the house to a library with amazing floor to ceiling bookcases & a comfy leather chair. I don't ever have an extra room but a girl can dream... right?
