I've had my first real workday today, and I feel pretty much like the flower on this picture. I'm not saying that being a sales consultant at a call center is a bad job. But it definitely is a hard one. I can't recall a single time that I've been treated like a complete idiot in any of my previous summer jobs. That is why I'm shocked when people that call in have already decided for themselves that I deserve to be treated like one.
Awe, I'm sorry to hear you were treated badly. Unfortunately, that's how the world works sometimes. Keep your chin up and don't take it personally, because it's not personal. These people are angry before they even hear your voice.
I remember when I worked in a call center. I was only there a month before I quit. I did telemarketing for the XM Satellite Radio... worst job I ever had!
I'm sure your job is much different, but if you like the job, keep your head up! I'm hoping I didn't bring you down with my past experience...
People suck... Seriously. I said I'd do any work from home job and while I was lucky and even worked for a favorite company of mine - Xbox - I got the brute of the insults. Whether someone broke their OWN XBOX, or had a problem, or their kid charged their credit card, etc. guess who was blamed? I, personally, was. I have never built an Xbox, I have never damaged an Xbox and I sure as hell didn't birth their damn kid. I hate customer service of this kind. Did I get nice people? Yes! And I was thankful. But the job itself sucked.
I truly hope you pull through and definitely realize it's not YOUR problem. These people call in upset - it's not your fault, even if they try to make you think so.
Oh no you poor thing! People can be pretty crap sometimes... but I wouldn't take it personally, which I know can be really hard to do! I've worked in a call centre myself for a short time... I didn't like it very much because of that reason! I don't understand why people can't be a bit more civil too! Hopefully your job gets better and nice people call :)
Usch, stackare. Kram!
I'm sorry you felt this way Anna. :( I did work at a call centre once but it was just 45 days & decently cushy. The first few days, learning the ropes at it really are the hardest. I really hope things look up. Please don't take it personally, hopefully you will become bolder & be firm & rude back to them if necessary.
oh Anna, I so relate to you... today I almost packed my stuff and told my boss I was out of there... instead, I went to my office and cried. Dealing with customers is so hard. Hang in there!
I've worked in a call center before and had to do cold calls. You can't believe some of the responses I've gotten from people. They were so nasty about the simple fact that I called them and asked how I got their number, etc. But the upside is that it helps you grow thicker skin :P
Yes, people can be ... people, I guess. Hang in there, remember to close all that into its own compartment and lock the door--it's just people who don't know you saying things they know nothing about. :)
I'm so sorry! I've dealt with my share of crappy customers and coworkers in my life, and at the very least, it's made me sympathetic to other workers! I hope it gets better soon.
Despite what it symbolizes, I really do love the photo of the flower.
Gosh isn't that hard? I so so hear you and feel for you, I've been through that and it feels so impossible to deal with the heartache in that. One thing that has helped me is to remember that this person treating me that way is miserable for whatever reason. It's about THEM, not precious YOU.
Oh no! :(
ReplyDeleteI hope things will turn around.
Summer jobs can suck, but you you why your in it?!
And, sadly, sometimes people can suck too.
Big hug sweet Anna.
