Each year, on Norwegian Constitution Day, I wonder why I haven't bothered to take the time to find a traditional folk costume. I love how people take to the streets proudly wearing local version of the bunad, the Norwegian folk dress. Seeing my cute friend Ingvild (picture no. 2, to the right) in her beautiful bunad makes me seriously consider it again. But since both my parents are from Poland, it would have to be a Polish folk dress for me, and I'm not quite sure how to go about getting one.
Today has been all about eating huge ice-creams, watching the parade with friends and enjoying our day off in the sun. Oh, how I wish we could have at least one more national holiday like May 17th.

I think us Swedes are a secretly pretty jealous of your national day celebrations! I mean our celebration is pretty lame! Or wait, it's not pretty lame it's just lame. period. I'm glad you got some sunshine because it's been raining all day over here! :)
ReplyDeleteOh I love those! My cousins and I are fighting about who gets our great-grandmother's traditional Norwegian dress (I guess it's a bunad?) she brought to the United States many years ago.
ReplyDeleteI bet that one is beautiful and that'll be a hard fight. I'd never guess that you have Norwegian heritage!
DeleteYep! LIke most caucasian Americans I'm a European mutt, but I've got a lot of Norwegian and a good amount of Swedish in me. My great-grandmother Borghild came over with my grandpa. My other grandma on the other side is at least half as well. I've always wanted to visit the little villages they came from.
Deleteyour blog, miss anna, is darling. i love everything about it!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! Thanks for sharing these photos from your celebration.
